The State of the Planet
Save our Planet Earth!– How audacious that we can even think that we will allot a day for the Planet
Unfortunately, in human minds, we have compartmentalized our life in such a way that we are breaking up one and hoping that the other will live. Trees are our closest relatives. What they exhale, we inhale; what we exhale, they inhale and keep our lives going. It is just like the outer part of our lung. You cannot ignore your body if you want to live. The planet is in no way different from that. What you call as “my body” is just a piece of this planet.
The United Nations is projecting that by 2050, we will be 9.6 billion people on this planet. In India particularly, right now, fifty-two percent of our land is ploughed just to feed 1.2 billion people. It is a fabulous fact that our farmers, with rudimentary, ramshackle infrastructure, are producing food for over one billion people. But still, the man who produces the food is not eating proper food. That is not something to be proud of. The people who produce food for all of us, their own children don’t eat a full stomach. This is not a commendable fact. This is essentially because we have not taken the responsibility of deciding, “For this much land, how much population can we support?” It definitely cannot support endless growth of human population. Either we control our populations consciously or nature will do it in a very cruel and painful manner. This is all the choice we have.
Without controlling human populations, talking about ecology, and land and water conservation is just not going to happen because the kind of impetus that is there in the form of science and technology is making every human being hyperactive. You cannot cap human activity because that will amount to capping human aspirations. And today, our aspiration is that everybody should get educated, and have large dreams and ambitions. That cannot be accommodated with the current levels of population, unless we strive for a more conscious way of determining where we want to stop.
Why Only Population Control Can Ensure Our Survival|Save Planet Earth!
In the early 20th century, the world’s population was 1.6 billion people. Today, a century later, we are 7.2 billion people. We are projecting that by 2050, we will be 9.6 billion people. I think this is just irresponsible reproduction of humanity. In India, in 1947, we were 330 million. Today, we are 1.2 billion. It doesn’t matter how many trees you plant, how many policies you change, what kind of technologies you bring, there is simply no solution unless we put a cap on human population.
Either we control our population consciously, or nature will do it in a very cruel manner. This is all the choice there is. In India particularly, right now, 60% of our land is ploughed, just to feed these 1.2 billion people. Our farmers, with rudimentary, totally ramshackle infrastructure, are producing food for over one billion people. This is an absolutely commendable fact, but still the man who produces food is not eating properly. That is not a commendable fact; that is not something to be proud of. The people who produce food for all of us, the rice or wheat that we are eating today, their own children don’t eat a full stomach. This is essentially because we have not taken the responsibility of deciding, “Okay, this much land – how much population can we support?” It definitely cannot support an endless growth of human population.
The Planet Earth Is Not Made Only For Humans
This idea that the planet is made only for human beings is a very gross idea. It has been put into people’s minds, saying that “you are created in God’s image”. I am sure even a worm is thinking God looks like a large worm! Not for ecological reasons, just for the sake of your humanity, you need to understand, every creature on this planet has a complete life of its own. Even an insect has a total life of its own – a whole lot of things are happening in his life. Just because someone is smaller or looks different from you, thinking he has no right to live and only you have a right to live here, is a very gross way to exist for humanity.
India Population Increase 1901-2011
Humanity devoid of humanity, that’s what humanity is today. Unless humanness is brought forth, I don’t think things like controlling human population consciously will happen. Of course governments have to make policies, but they cannot enforce these kinds of things in a democracy. It can only be done by a campaign and by bringing the necessary awareness, but definitely people in the government have to put that idea forth. Private agencies and NGOs can do something, but still, governmental action is needed.
Talking about ecology, land conservation or water conservation without controlling human population is just not going to make a difference because the kind of impetus that is there in the form of science and technology is making every human being hyperactive. You cannot cap human activity because that will amount to capping human aspirations. You can only cap human population.
The only thing we can do is – are we going to adjust our population to the resource that we have? That is something that every human being can do if the necessary education and awareness is brought into their lives. If that investment is made, we don’t have to plant trees. The planet is not in peril, it is human life which is in peril. This is something human beings need to understand.
Nature is a Temple
If you walk into a very pristine forest where hardly any human beings have moved, if you just go in, close your eyes and sit, it is like you are sitting in a temple; you can actually feel this. There is a phenomenal amount of energy which supports you because the whole life process – from a microbe to a worm, to an insect, to a bird, to an animal, to a tree, to a plant – every one of them is living with this intention: they want to be something more than what they are right now. That intention creates a kind of consecration of its own, it creates a certain sacredness of its own. If you allow the planet to be just the way it was, and if you simply sit here or sleep, you will find the whole place will become like a consecrated space.
As you get more exposed to this and remain completely in the womb of nature, the way you feel things changes. This is the reason why yogis always withdrew into forests and mountain caves. Because just sitting there, the intention of nature is crystal clear to you. The main thing is to grow beyond all limitations which are restricting you right now. That intention is being expressed by every grain of soil out there – don’t miss it! If you become without intention, you will feel the intention of the Existence. When you become one with that, you travel so much more easily in that direction.
This is our time on Planet Earth, lets make it a beautiful place once again.
It is our home so i think we should take some preventive measures to restore our enviornment, our habitat. To save our planet earth and its ozone depeletion we should individually strive for the cause. Only campainging or giving slogans on the roads will not do anything good , we must work on it and contribute to save our earth.
Only if we do right things, right things will happen, only talking will not take us anywhere , unless we act. So act now , it is our responsibility, it is the responsibility of each and everyone who breath and eats here on this planet.
Lets make it happen for ourselves.our earth.Lets take a step today to save our planet earth.
whats your opinion on this? are you going to take a step ?
will you take the nessecary measure to save Planet Earth?
