9 Everyday Habits That Keep Your Body Stuck in Stress Mode (And How to Switch It Off)
3. Sitting for Hours Without Moving

If you work at a desk, drive a lot, or spend evenings on the sofa, you probably sit for much of your day. Long, unbroken sitting doesn’t just stiffen your hips and back. It keeps your body in a tense, static state, and research links it to poorer blood sugar control and lower mood.
The good news is that you don’t need an hour at the gym to undo it. The World Health Organization recommends 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity a week for adults, but studies also suggest that even short “movement snacks”, like a few minutes of walking or stretching every 30 to 60 minutes, can make a real difference to how you feel.
What to do instead: Set a reminder to stand up every 30 to 45 minutes. Roll your shoulders, stretch your arms overhead, do a standing forward fold, or take a short walk to refill your water. A 10-minute walk after meals is also one of the simplest ways to calm both your mind and your digestion.
Halfway there. The next habits include the one that makes the biggest difference for the least effort.
